People of Â鶹ֱ²¥: Meet Wazeer Rahiman

My dad always wanted me to be a police officer.

When I was a kid back home in India, he would only let me watch police movies, and he would watch them with me.

A person stands against a white backdrop and smiles at the camera.

He was in the military for 10 years so that kind of influenced it a bit.

So, I always had a passion for policing, but I never tried to pursue it as a career.

When I first came to Canada in 2012, I took a business management course but afterward I thought, “this is not what I want to do.â€

I wanted to do something I really enjoyed. That’s when I decided to go into policing.

I didn’t know if I would make it because I had no background in it, and I had zero knowledge about policing in Canada and very little knowledge about the legal system here.

It was all brand new for me, but luckily, I joined .

The professors at Â鶹ֱ²¥â€™s Orillia Campus are amazing.

You can be passionate about a program but in order to complete it you need help from the professors, instructors, trainers – and I had that at Â鶹ֱ²¥.

‘You don’t know if you can do something until you try’

Our fitness instructor was tough, but it was always to make us better.

When I first started running, it was hard for me to run for 10 minutes. Every day we’d have to run for an extra minute longer until we were able to run for a full hour straight.

I never thought I’d be able to run that far, but I did it.

You don’t know if you can do something until you try.

I’m so glad I went to Â鶹ֱ²¥. Without it, I don’t think I would be where I am today.

Wazeer’s dad often played police movies for him as a kid.

And my dad? He was in tears when I told him I got hired as a police officer.

He never thought there would be a time I would be telling him I actually did it like he wanted to. It makes both of us happy.
